Calgary winter temperature
Calgary:
- where the lowest winter temperatures are pretty much what the sign says (factor in wind chill and it can feel like minus 60 at times) and the highest summer temperatures are around plus 30 (usually lasts about 2 weeks). That’s a 70 degree difference and I’m tellin’ ya my body is getting less tolerant every year.
- where you can expect the last snowfall of the seasons to be in May and I’ve seen it snow as early as September.
- where you can’t plant your flowers until you’re sure you’ve seen the last frost (end of May or beginning of June).

Shortbread cookies, boxes and boxes of sweet, gooey chocolates, calorie-laden cocktails, and tons of delicious food offered in dinners, fondues, brunches, lunches, snacks and gifts.
So I know I’ve gained weight I just didn’t realize how much. I got on the scale this morning and it was even worse than I thought. So it’s back to the South Beach Diet for now. My goal is to lose 17 pounds and following the south beach i know that i’ll probably lose 5 the first week which leaves 12 remaining. If I can lose 1 pound a week after that then by the end of March I’ll be at my goal. That will be the lightest I’ve been in..my guess is about 20 years.
I’ll start on Monday, once I’m back at work. I find it a lot easier to diet when I’m working than when I’m staying home. Besides there’s still to many “bad food” leftovers hanging around here which I have to finish off.

A new year signifies a new beginning and although I haven’t made resolutions for many years I think I’ll give it a go so that I have some actual focus this year instead of just making it through.
1. Cook more interesting meals. Instead of just preparing the same old food the same old way I’ll haul out my 6 year’s worth of old Bon Appetit’s and find some new recipes.
2. Exercise more consistently.
Okay, that’s enough – let’s not get carried away. If I can actually pull this off (#2) I’ll be doing good.
